The Gold Standard in Laser Hair Removal — GentleMax Pro by Candela

At The Laser & Aesthetic Clinic, we use the GentleMax Pro laser system by Candela — widely regarded as the gold standard in laser hair removal technology.

Two Wavelengths. Every Skin Type. Superior Results.

The GentleMax Pro combines two powerful laser modalities in a single system:

Alexandrite 755nm Laser — Ideal for skin types 1–3, this fast and powerful wavelength targets hair follicles with precision, making it highly effective for lighter skin tones.

Nd:YAG 1064nm Laser — Specially suited for skin types 4–6, the Nd:YAG safely treats darker skin tones with exceptional efficacy and minimal risk.

Together, these dual wavelengths mean our clinic can treat the full spectrum of skin types — from very fair to deep skin tones — delivering outstanding hair reduction results for every client.

Questions & Answers

What does the treatment involve?

The Laser light is absorbed by the melanin (the black pigment) in the hair, causing the hair follicle to heat up and hence destroying it. The Aesthetician uses a hand piece to localize the laser to the area being treated.

Laser hair removal works by destroying the bulge in the root of the hair and hence preventing hair growth.

What areas can be treated?

The hair can be removed from your back, arms, legs, chin, virtually anywhere. This method of hair removal can be used on any part of the body and is utilised by both males and females.

How many sessions will I need and how far apart should I have them?

Six treatments are usually required to ensure optimal results as at any given time the laser only treats hair that is in the growth phase of the cycle. These treatments need to be repeated at 4 weekly intervals for the face and 6-8 weekly intervals for the body.

Am I a suitable candidate / what are the contra-indications?

With this laser, we can safely treat all skin types including asian and dark skin types. All skin types 1-6 are suitable for this treatment.

A patch test is recommended prior to your treatment, and it is advisable to not be in the sun for 4 weeks post-treatment.

The main Contra-indication of this treatment is pregnancy and breastfeeding however you may also be an unsuitable candidate due to tanning of the skin and various medical conditions. Other contradictions would be cold sores, suspicious moles, tattoo’s or semi-perm makeup, active infections in the treatment area. If you are not sure if you are a suitable candidate please contacts the clinic for further advice.

What results can I expect?

The best results are seen in the treatment of dark hair on light skin.  After a course of treatments with Laser hair, removal hair growth will be significantly minimal.

Are there any side effects?

It is normal for you to experience some minor side effects after treatment. These can include:

  • Swelling around the mouth of treated follicles for around three days
  • Pain, tingling or numbness
  • Itching on the treated area
  • Redness on the treated area for around three days after treatment

Downtime and aftercare / post-treatment advice?

There is no down time with laser hair removal, however:

  • Do NOT depilate between LASER treatments with waxing, plucking, threading or creams that will disturb the hair follicle. Shaving is the preferred method.

  • Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin)

  • Use a sunblock minimum SPF 50 at all times throughout the course of treatment.
