Acne Treatments Acne can be a very distressing condition and one that is not necessarily restricted to teenage years; in fact it can affect people of all ages. Traditional treatments can range from products, which can be bought over the counter to prescription antibiotic creams and tablets. Acne is caused by the over activity of the sebaceous glands. Normally, these will secrete oily substances (sebum) onto the skin to help protect it, but a sensitivity to testosterone (a naturally occurring blood hormone found in both men and women), can trigger an over production of sebum. Agera Skin Peels These skin peels comprise of salicylic, lactic, citric acid and vitamin C High in salicylic content, these skin peels help target the causes of acne inflammation and help reduce and control blocked pores and bacteria, early intervention will of course also help to reduce the risk of acne scarring. Agera skin peels are also a good anti-ageing treatment and can help reduce unwanted pigmentation. A course of peels are usually recommended for best results Medical Microdermabrasion Microdermabrasion uses crystals to disrupt and remove the top layer of skin cells that cause blocked pores. During a consultation, the therapist will assess the skin and discuss medical history before devising a suitable product regimin for at home use. For many clients we suggest a combination treatment plan, of treatments in clinic and products for at home use. What do we offer for Acne Scarring? Many clients struggle with the toll acne has taken on their skin once it has settled. Cystic acne can leave depressions in the skin (pitting) whilst other clients’ acne can leave pink/dark marks on the skin. Microdermabrasion for mild scarring If depressions in the skin are not deep, these can be alleviated with microdermabrasion treatment. The machine can work at a high setting to cause light trauma to the skin which in turn promotes cell renewal. It is also benefial for those clients who have dark/pink marks post acne. Dermapen for mild-deep scarring Dermapen is a skin needling treatment which causes harsh trauma to the skin and encourages the skins natural healing response, therefore boosting cell formation in areas where there are depressions in the skin. Prior to treatment the area is numbed. It is normal for the skin to become quite pink post treatment but this should settle within a few hours. We recommend this treatment every 6-8 weeks. CO2RE for deep scarring CO2RE is a laser system that targets and effectively treast the skin’s surface, middle and deep dermal levels in addition to performing traditional CO2 resurfacing. CO2RE has the ability to treat both superficial and deep layers of skin simultaneously. With CO2RE laser skin resurfacing treatment, patients experience improvement in: Facial scarring Skin tone and texture Sun-damaged skin Age spots Fine lines and wrinkles PIH Post Acne (Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation) It is often the case that clients can have PIH once spots have disappeared. These can easily be treated by microdermabrasion treatments, skin peels (Agera Peel) or product usage (ZO Medical Range). Clients should book a consultation to determine which would be most suitable for them. Frequently Asked Questions What does the treatment involve? Testimonials K.M - Maidstone "Over the years I have suffered from severe acne and as a result of this I have terrible acne scarring. I am a regular client at the laser and aesthetic clinic, often having laser hair removal with Gita. She recommended to me the treatments and products that the clinic provides to help tackle these issues. There and then we had a consultation and I have to say since that day I have not looked back. Since I have had multiple skin peels, microdermabrasion treatments as well as using the Obagi Clenziderm product range she suggested. My skin now looks and feels great my scarring is significantly reduced and I now have so much more confidence."
