The laser can also be used to treat localized problem areas such as fine upper lip lines, lines under the eyes, acne scarring and some types of moles and warts. There is an initial consultation fee of £50 with Dr Patel, refundable against the cost of the treatment. This cosmetic procedure removes the top layers of the skin, called the epidermis, with less of a risk of creating a scar than surgery. The laser beam core exposes and heats the deeper layer of skin, called the dermis. This encourages collagen protein production to help repair damaged skin. The treatment is carried out with topical anaesthetic that is applied to the skin for an hour prior to the procedure. Antibiotics and antiviral medication are given before and for a few days after the procedure We recommend for optimum results to prep the skin four to six weeks before commencing treatment to prevent pigmentation problems. Complications and side effects are rare. However there a few that should be considered when thinking of having this treatment: Pain. Most people feel very little pain during treatment. There is mild discomfort in the area for the first day after treatment. Redness. A pink colour may persist for two weeks to two months after the laser surgery Crusting is rare but peeling is common. Once the surface is treated, it may be sensitive to the sun for approximately 4-6 weeks. Pigment Changes. The treated area may heal with increased or decreased pigmentation. This is rare and occurs most often in darker skin and 2-6 weeks after treatment. Immediately after laser surgery, there will be swelling of the skin. This is a temporary condition and will resolve over three to seven days. Scarring. There is a very small chance of scarring.. To minimize chances of scarring, it is important to follow post-operative instructions carefully. Downtime and Aftercare / post treatment advice? Your skin will peel for 2-7 days and will be pink for 3 to 6 weeks. This healing all depends on how deep your treatment is. Avoid bathing with very hot water, strenuous exercise, and massage for 2–3 days post laser skin care treatment. Wait at least 12 hours (next morning) to wash your face. Cleanse your face with a mild cleanser. Use the cleanser for the duration of the healing process. DO NOT use any scrubs or irritants such as Retin-A, Benzoyl Peroxide or any astringents. The skin always should be patted dry and NOT rubbed. Makeup should not be used for at least 5 days post treatment. Most makeup is moisturizing, which can sometimes prevent the peeling process. If makeup is absolutely needed, we recommend using new makeup to reduce the possibility of infection. Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 1–2 months post treatment in order to reduce the chance of dark or light spots. A powdered mineral makeup can be worn during the healing process as a sunscreen, but make sure the makeup is new and the brush is clean. Sun exposure delays the process of healing. It can also cause damage to the healing skin and cause undue pigmentation and textural changes that may be lasting. Avoid tweezing, waxing, bleaching or chemical peels during the course of the healing process. What is the treatment cost?
