Sculptra
Sculptra is a polylactic acid which
occurs naturally and helps to stimulate the body's own
production of collagen within the line or wrinkle, making
the skin appear smoother and firmer. Lactic acid is
a chemical present in our bodies and polylactic acid
is a manmade substance made up of tiny particles of
lactic acid joined together. It has been used safely
and effectively in the past 20 years in a number of
different indications. Sculptra is injected into the
line or wrinkle being treated. The injection consists
of very fine particles of polylactic acid suspended
in water. The day after the injection, the wrinkle looks
the same as before the treatment as the body absorbs
the water leaving the polylactic acid under the skin.
This then encourages the production of collagen that
fills out the wrinkle. You will be able to see a difference
within a few days with a maximum effect been seen after
two weeks. It is an excellent way of treating lines
and wrinkles on most parts of the face. It can add volume
to areas which have become hollow, such as the cheeks.
Sculptra lasts longer then other injectable
fillers. The improvement is sustained for 12-18 months.
Most clients need two sessions about 4 weeks apart.
As with any injections there is some discomfort when
having the procedure. However the doctor may suggests
the use of a local anaesthetic gel or a nerve block.
Some patients may experience some swelling or bruising
that may last for a few days.
The cost of the treatment is £700
for the 2 sessions.
