IPL Threadvein Treatment (Facial & Leg)

IPL treatment of Threadveins - The Ellipse System uses short burst of safe, visible light to remove thread veins from the face or legs. Blood contains haemoglobin that absorbs the light and converts it to heat. This heat destroys the protein in the wall of the thread vein. As a result it will gradually and safely disappear after treatment. It works very well for rosacea and also for very fine red thread veins on the legs. Larger thread veins (more than ½ mm in diameter are still best treated by the time proven sclerotherapy.

Expect a total of 2-3 treatments for best results.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is the practice of injecting enlarged and cosmetically undesirable veins with medication (the scleosant) in order to minimise their symptoms and appearance. These veins are usually found in the legs but may affect the face, chest or hands. Treatments have proven highly effective in minimising or eliminating most unwanted veins. This is not a cure for the process that forms the veins but a way to control the veins that formed. An improvement of 60-70% of the veins treated can be expected after one session. Usually 2 or 3 sessions, one month apart are required to obtain maximum benefit.

All treatment is preceded by a consultation to examine your legs to determine if your veins are suitable for treatment. Rarely, a problem is found in the largest deep veins inside the leg that may require surgical correction before any non-surgical treatment will help. Sclerotherapy is a time-proven method where medicine is placed directly into the vein through tiny injections. The solution causes wall of the veins to become irritated and 'sticky'. With help from external compression, the veins own walls stick together and the vein is sealed off so that blood no longer flows through it (like pushing a straw between your fingers).

Once the vein has closed, the body breaks down and reabsorbs it through a natural process so it is no longer visible through the skin. Even with the latest lasers, sclerotherapy remain the gold standard in cosmetic treatment of most leg veins. Side effects are uncommon and may include slight pigmentation surrounding the veins treated that fades over a few months.
